Chambers agrees Arsenal extension until 2021

Calum Chambers has agreed a two-year contract extension to keep him at Arsenal until 2021, the club have confirmed.

The versatile defender joined Arsenal from Southampton in 2014 for £16million after breaking through as a teenager and impressing under Mauricio Pochettino.

Initially he made a good start to life at the Emirates Stadium, playing 23 times in his first Premier League campaign at the club – one more appearance than he managed at Southampton the previous year.

However, the emergence of Hector Bellerin coupled with injuries and poor form meant Chambers became a bit-part figure at the club and he was sent out on loan to Middlesbrough last season, where he managed 24 league appearances in a campaign that ended in relegation to the Championship.

Sahin warns Dortmund against underestimating Celtic

Borussia Dortmund may have reached the Champions League final last season, but they will not be taking the visit of Celtic lightly, so says Nuri Sahin.

The last time Celtic made it past the group stage in the competition was in 2013, but they have made an impressive start to this season, winning all nine games across all competitions, including a 5-1 win over Slovan Bratislava.

Dortmund, runners-up to Real Madrid last season, have won three of their last four games in all competitions, though they were hammered 5-1 by Stuttgart on September 22.

We re talking about a team that hasn t lost a lot of games, that hasn t conceded in their own league, that was very dominant in their first Champions League game, Sahin told reporters ahead of Tuesday s match at Signal Id…

Nations League campaign ´not a shipwreck´ for France ahead of Qatar 2022, says Deschamps

France boss Didier Deschamps insisted his side are far from a shipwreck after losing 2-0 to Denmark in their final game before heading to Qatar 2022.

Les Bleus will head into their World Cup trophy defence in November on the back of a poor Nations League campaign that saw them limp home third in Group A1.

Three losses in competitive matches since March means France have already matched their worst-ever record in that regard for a calendar year.

Having been tipped as strong contenders to be world champions again, France s second loss to the Danes in 2022 – ahead of a Group D battle between the teams in Qatar – has set off alarm bells among supporters.

Deschamps, who guided the team to glory at Russia 2018, has pushed back against suggestions his s…

Thiago ´thrilled´ with World Cup qualification after 2014 heartache

Thiago Alcantara was delighted to secure Spain s progress to the World Cup after missing out on the finals in Brazil three years ago due to injury.

The Bayern Munich midfielder suffered a serious knee problem which ruled him out of the 2014 tournament, where the defending champions were stunningly eliminated in the group stages.

La Roja sealed their spot as Group G winners with Friday s 3-0 win over Albania, Thiago netting the third to cap a devastating opening 26 minutes in Alicante.

I m thrilled about the World Cup because I d already missed out on one due to injury, but a lot of work still needs to be done, Thiago said.

It s special because of the work carried out by this national team for the past year and a half, and through sacrifice and hard w…

Platini tips 2008 final repeat

UEFA president Michel Platini has tipped either Spain or Germany to emerge as victors during the upcoming Euro 2012.

Speaking at a gathering in Nyon, the 56-year-old set both of the finalists from the last edition of the competition apart from the rest of the crop, and said that both sides would be the teams to beat in Ukraine and Poland.

As far as the favourites go, I always differentiate between those who can win and those who will be hard to beat, Platini said.

Germany and Spain belong to the first category, pretty much all the others belong to the second.

The France legend added that Germany s relative inexperience going into the tournament, with the youngest squad on average among all 16 competitors, may make them more eager to win the trophy.

The Chicago Bears head to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 3 of NFL action on Sunday afternoon. This is a matchup between last year’s first and worst teams as the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs host the Bears who haven’t won a game since last October.

Given that talent disparity, you might expect a big spread in NFL odds for this contest and you’d be absolutely right as betting lines have Kansas City pegged as a 13-point home favorite. Here are my best free Bears vs. Chiefs NFL picks for September 24.
